Farmer

~ NOW HIRING: AGRIHOOD FARMER ~

Carnes Crossroads, an agrihood community of more than 3,600 homes in Goose Creek, South Carolina, is seeking two dedicated, full-time Agrihood Farmers. This is a unique opportunity for you to be part of the agrihood community movement and a friendly, hardworking team. We pride ourselves in creating a positive, enjoyable work environment. The farmers are hired by CCMC, the company that manages the HOA and Farm, and work in conjunction with Convivial Foodscapes, LLC. 

We grow 10 acres of organic vegetables and fruit that are distributed to residents through a retail Farm Share program. In addition to overseeing production, we also maintain a U-Pick Garden and General Store for residents.

 

Responsibilities

● Support Farm Director in all aspects of vegetable, fruit and herb production, including but not limited to seeding, planting, pest, disease and fertility management, field cultivation, irrigation planning, installation and repairs, harvesting and post harvest handling, record keeping, upholding product, food safety standards, etc.

● Support Farm Share program

● Maintain farm infrastructure and landscape with support from contracted vendors, including the cleanliness and orderliness of the General Store, barn and its surroundings.

● Provide tours of the General Store and Farm

● Provide friendly customer service both in person and by phone

● Assist HOA team with events as needed

 

Required Qualifications and Skills

Qualified candidates must be able to work in various weather conditions, stand for extended periods of time, and are required to repeatedly lift and move up to 50 lbs. This position also requires occasional nights and weekend work 3-4 times a month.

 

● At least 1 year of organic vegetable production experience on a similar or larger scale

● Timely and dependable

● Strong interpersonal communication skills

● Enthusiasm for local and sustainable agriculture

● A problem solver with a focus on continuous improvement, who is always learning, open to feedback and takes action as required

 

Preferred Qualifications and Skills

● Experience growing in the south east

● Experience with farm equipment maintenance & repair

● Bilingual English/Spanish

Cashier

This is a unique opportunity for you to be part of the agrihood community movement and a friendly, hardworking team. We pride ourselves in creating a positive, enjoyable work environment. The Cashier is hired by CCMC, the company that manages the POA and Farm, and works in conjunction with Convivial Foodscapes, LLC. We grow organic vegetables and fruit that are distributed to residents through a retail Farm Share program. In addition, we also maintain a U-Pick Garden and Farm Store for residents.

 

Working Relationships
Reports directly to the Farm Director. Occasionally works closely with the Community Manager and Lifestyle Director.


Responsibilities
● Assist and support the Farm Director in running the Farm Store successfully
● Team player, willing and able to work outside, get dirty and support farm production (harvesting, washing, packing, etc.)
● Complete store opening and closing procedures (unlock/lock doors, put produce on display/back into cooler, check produce quality, turn on/off TV and music, spot clean, etc.)
● Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of the store and its surroundings.
● Greet and acknowledge customers in a friendly, professional manner.
● Keep track of the number of residents and prospects that visit the farm and barn
● Operate cash register
● Provide tours of the Farm Store and the Farm
● Highlight products and share vision for how the farm embodies a healthy, active lifestyle at Carnes Crossroads
● Ensure that perishable products are rotated and refrigerated as required
● Clean and restock shelves as needed to ensure optimum availability of products in abundant, attractive displays
● Reconcile and report customer issues and concerns to Management
● Maintain dress code
● Take pictures of products for use on social media accounts
● Complete assigned tasks, phone calls and research to assist Farm Director
● Assist POA team with workshops/events as needed


Qualifications and Skills
Qualified candidates must be able to work during Farm Store hours, including 30 minutes before and after for opening and closing routines (Sunday 11:30-5:30pm, Wednesday - Friday 12:30-7:30pm, Saturday 8:30-7:30). Hours are subject to change. The Farm Store is not a climate controlled space. The preparation and implementation of certain activities may take place outdoors. Candidates must be able to work in various weather conditions, stand for extended periods of time, and may be required to lift and move up to 50 lbs.
● Minimum Education: High School Diploma or GED
● Prior produce or retail experience a plus, but not required
● Excellent work ethic and time management skills, accomplishes tasks with a great attitude
● Strong interpersonal communication skills and attention to details
● Able to use retail technology
● Proactively seeks product knowledge to provide customers with information and to identify selling/marketing opportunities
● A problem solver with a focus on continuous improvement, who is always learning, open to feedback and takes action as
required
● Enthusiasm for local and sustainable agriculture is a plus
● Bilingual English/Spanish preferred
